Interested in Obtaining an Amateur Licence?
Whether you are looking to join Amateur Radio with the entry level licence (Foundation), or want to work your way further up the scale to an Intermediate or Full Licence, then SDARS can help you achieve the licence you want.
The club have two tutors available who are both RSGB registered assessors.
John Hill, G4NBR (Exam Secretary)
John has a proven track record and has been teaching since 1978, initially with the original City and Guilds, and now the RSGB three tier system.
Andrew Hebden, G8BYB
Andrew has a history of delivering IT training and has attended the RSGB TtT program. He has been providing amateur radio training since June 2016.
The courses are run on mutually agreed dates typically during Friday evenings but other times can be arranged. A flexible approach is designed to help as many people as possible. Course duration will vary on candidate abilities, and full help is given to people of ALL abilities. Books and training materials are supplied as necessary and are the property of the candidate to take home at the end of the course.
We try to keep the class sizes to a max of 6 people. This gives a relaxed atmosphere and aids the learning process. However, individual needs can be catered for.
The examinations are held, more or less, on demand given sufficient notice and dates are usually agreed as part of the course. The foundation course is usually approximately 6 weeks, Intermediate is 8 weeks and the Advanced takes 12 – 24 weeks.
Please don’t be worried about the complexity of the exams. We have all the time to teach you. We have the patience as well. If the capability is within you we can help you release it.
