Training

It is with great sadness , We are unable to take on new candidates at the present time due to our President, Teacher and Mentor having passed away.

Interested in Obtaining an Amateur Licence?

Whether you are looking to join Amateur Radio with the entry level licence (Foundation) or want to work your way further up the scale to an Intermediate or Full Licence, then SDARS can help you achieve the licence you want.

The club has a tutor available who is an RSGB registered assessor.

John Hill, G4NBR (Exam Secretary)
John has a proven track record and has been teaching since 1978, initially with the original City and Guilds, and now the RSGB three tier system.

The courses are run on mutually agreed dates typically during Friday evenings, however other times can be arranged for specific circumstances.  A flexible approach is designed to help as many people as possible.  Course duration will vary on candidate abilities, and full help is given to people of ALL abilities.  Books and training materials can be supplied as necessary and are the property of the candidate to take home at the end of the course, however the candidate should be in possession of a copy of the relevant RSGB training book (available from the RSGB website)

We try to keep the class sizes to a max of 6 people. This gives a relaxed atmosphere and aids the learning process. However, individual needs can be catered for.

The examinations are held on demand given sufficient notice and dates are usually agreed as part of the course. The foundation course duration is approximately 6 weeks, Intermediate is 8 weeks and the Advanced takes 12 – 24 weeks to complete.

Please don’t be worried about the complexity of the exams, we have all the time to teach you along with the patience to help you be successful.  If the capability is within you we can help you release it.

If you would like to get your name on the list for an upcoming class, drop us a line by emailing us at training@sdars.org.uk or by ringing John on
