Spalding and District Amateur Radio Society

Chairman's Report, presented at the 2004 AGM.

2003 has been a difficult year for the Club.  A number of foundation licence courses have been successfully held and some of the newcomers have joined the club, thus increasing membership.

After a lot of work by the committee a new venue, the Gleed Boy's School, was found for the rally.  This has proved to be a successful venue and has been booked for 2004.  Some specialist groups attended, and my thanks go to all for helping.

The two junk sales at Bromley Hall have been successful, but junk to sell at them is becoming short in supply so please look in your junkboxes if you can help.

Our main concern as a club is the termination of the lease at the clubroom by South Holland District Council - this means that we will have to be out by the end of April 2004.  The council have waived our back rent and offered to help us find new premises but nothing so far.  I held two meetings last year telling the members the situation.  Alternative premises, if found, in Spalding would be expensive.  A portakabin at one of our members premises seems to be the only way forward for the club to survive so as to keep a headquarters and a centre to carry on the teaching of newcomers which is vital to the survival of the club. To finish off the year the club had a nice Christmas meal at The Mermaid pub, and £46 was raised for the children's ward at the Pilgrim Hospital.

PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS YOUR CLUB - NOTHING IN NOTHING OUT!
