Spalding and District Amateur Radio Society

Treasurer's Report, presented at the 2004 AGM.

Subs
The Club has had another profitable year. The subs are up by another five members over last year, mainly due I think to John’s Novice and Intermediate licence classes which have been very well attended and provided some very good pass rates.

Junk Sales
The junk sales have again been very profitable and a good source of income for the club. Could this possibly be due to Brenda and Colette’s famous bacon butties and of course the expert gavel of Robin the auctioneer?

Rally
We had another successful rally despite the fact that we lost Springfields and had to find another venue, the Gleed School which turned out to be excellent and should be a good venue for us in the future.
The club did have quite a bit of extra expenditure due to this move. We had to invest in extra advertising, a club rally banner and other expenses some of which will not be incurred next year and should make the rally even more successful. I think this was money well spent.
Thanks to all the people who put a lot of hard work and time into what turned out to be a successful rally.

Miscellaneous.
The annual Christmas dinner at the Mermaid was a break even as usual with the raffle money donated to the Children’s Ward Trust Fund at the Pilgrim Hospital.
The SHDC has waived the rent on the clubroom so we have paid no rent this year so the club has shown a saving there.
As you all know we have to be out of the clubroom by April and we have to find new premises. This could be a time of sink or swim for the club. I hope it will be swim.
A Portakabin has been suggested and I think it would be a good idea, it would keep the club together and we wouldn’t have to hold meetings in a backroom somewhere ands also the radios and equipment would all be in one place.
The only problem is finance, a reasonable Portakabin would cost the club in the region of £3000 plus VAT which is a very considerable chunk out of our resources and leave us with very little or no money at all until the next junk sale and the AGM when the subs are due, which are our next sources of income.
The licences and insurance will also have to be paid before the junk sale and is also a drain on our resources.
If anyone would like to donate to the Portakabin any donation would be gratefully received, or failing that any constructive ideas on how we can raise some of the cash would be most welcome.
Don’t forget this is YOUR club and the problem is not insurmountable, so lets swim and not sink.
On a final note does anybody know where the clubs G5RV aerial and ATU is? Our old long wire is past its sell by date and the new aerial will be required at the new location.

J.Hall Treasurer.
